John M. "Jack" Hille, 70, of Dieterich passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at his home with family and friends by his side.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 29 at 10:30am at St. John Lutheran Church, Dieterich (on the blacktop). Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham and from 9:30 to 10:30am Wednesday at the church.

Jack was born on December 31, 1947, in Effingham, IL, the son of the late George and Velma (Buchanan) Hille. He attended Effingham High School. He joined the Army in 1965. He served in Vietnam, where he received the Purple Heart. He married the love of his life Phyllis Bannick on July 10, 1982 in Elliottstown. Jack retired after 38 years as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Effingham. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and VFW in Effingham. He loved to hunt and ride his Harley, but his family and friends were the most important to him. Spoiling his grandchildren is what he did best.

Jack is survived by his wife, Phyllis Hille of Dieterich; son, John (Rhianna) Bannick of Dieterich; grandchildren, Tyler Meyocks of Mt. Vernon, Madison Bannick of Dieterich, and Hunter Bannick of Dieterich; brother, Robert Hille of Effingham; brother-in-law, Terry (April) Bannick of Dieterich; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Gaylord and Viola Bannick; brother, Donald Hille; and brother-in-law, Gaylord Bannick Jr.
