Evelyn was born October 3, 1931, in Effingham County, the daughter of Ralph and Marie (Kiefer) McWhorter. She married her high school sweetheart Arthur Wayne “Pete” Arnold October 8, 1949 at Loy Chapel. They celebrated 65 years of marriage in 2014. He preceded her in death June 12, 2015. Evelyn was a member of Watson United Methodist Church for decades where she showered members and guests alike with her smile and welcoming presence. She considered her church and its members to be her second family. She was grateful and felt blessed to have them in her life. Specifically, Evelyn had a deep love for all children. But, her favorite sub-group of children were those who were St. Louis Cardinal fans.  If some were Chicago Cub fans, she said that she still loved them in spite of their poor judgement. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Evelyn’s purpose in life was to serve others by putting their needs before hers.

Evelyn is survived by her sons, Roger (Rebecca) Arnold of Minneapolis, MN and John Arnold of Heartville, IL; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Jean (Jay) Shadwell of Freedom, CA; brothers, Cecil (Joyce) McWhorter of Salem, IL, Dan (Laura Ann) McWhorter of Greensboro, NC, and David (Marianne) McWhorter of Idar-Oberstein, Germany.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur Wayne “Pete” Arnold; sister in infancy, Mary Margaret McWhorter; and brother, Ralph McWhorter Jr.
