Hilton C. Wood, 95, of Effingham, IL passed away Monday July 30, 2018 at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center with his wife by his side.

Private family services will be held. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family with arrangements.

Hilton was born on February 9, 1923 to H. Cyril and Pearl (Harms) Wood. He was united in marriage to Harriet Bass on August 25, 1950 in Effingham. He was raised in Detroit, Michigan until the family moved to Muskegon, Michigan where Hilton graduated from High School. Hilton served his country in the Navy where he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. After returning from the war Hilton moved to Effingham to take a job at Fedders where he worked as a tool and die maker for 42 years. Hilton loved spending summers at the family cottage in Harsens Island, Michigan. Hilton was also an active member of the Boy Scouts of America for over 50 years. He received the Silver Beaver award for his life saving efforts for a child who was drowning. He was also a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge. Hilton was a loving father, husband, and grandfather. He was a great storyteller and will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.

Hilton is survived by his wife, Harriet Wood of Effingham. He also leaves behind a son, Alan (Pam) Wood of Bloomington, IL, daughter Debra Williams of Kaiser, MO and daughter-in-law Sue Wood of Effingham. He also leaves behind 5 Grandchildren and 4 Great-Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Lloyd.
