Kathryn L. Cordray, 93, of Terre Haute, IN, formerly of Shelbyville, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Signature Healthcare in Terre Haute, IN. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville is assisting the family.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 1 at the First Baptist Church in Shelbyville with Pastor Tim Yankee officiating. Burial will take place in Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorials may be given in her name to the Terre Haute First Baptist Church, c/o Building Fund, 4701 E. Poplar Drive, Terre Haute, IN 47803 or Heart to Heart Hospice, 4529 S. 7th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47802.

Kathryn was born on December 26, 1924, in Lakewood, IL, the daughter of Clayton Murrel and Vera Maye Bowman Johnson. She was a 1943 graduate of Shelbyville High School and attended Sparks Business College. Kathryn and Herschel F. Cordray were united in marriage on September 12, 1948 and he preceded her in death on July 15, 2007. A strong work ethic was part of Kathryn’s life including Oliver Corporation, White Motor Company, Rudy Foor Salvage retiring from First Federal Savings and Loan in 1999. Moving to Terre Haute in 2009 allowed Kathryn to be physically closer to her son Monte and his family but her heart was always in Shelbyville.

Kathryn is survived by her son Monte L. Cordray and wife Sharon W. Cordray; grandchildren: Christopher N. Cordray and wife Leslie, Erin C. Schwab and husband Casey and Adam L. Cordray and wife Claire; great-grandchildren: Olivia Anne and Timothy Noble Cordray and William Carter Schwab. A rich family life was one of Kathryn’s greatest joys including sister-in-law, Donna Johnson; niece, Debra Hammond and husband Tom; nephew, Jeffrey Johnson and many great nieces, nephews, cousins and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her beloved husband, of 58 years, Herschel F. Cordray; brother, Warren L. Johnson and parents, Clayton Murrel and Vera Maye Bowman Johnson.
