Nancy L. Compton, 79, of Effingham, IL passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Willowbrook Memory Care in Effingham, IL.

Nancy was born May 15, 1939, in Fancher, the daughter of Wayne and Mary (Morrison) Compton. After receiving her B.A. in Mathematics from Greenville College and her M.A. in Mathematics from Northwestern University, Nancy began her teaching career in the elementary and high school levels in the Edwardsville, Barrington, and Charleston areas then served in administrative roles serving as a Collection Specialist III at Eastern Illinois University from 1977-1981, Bursar at Eastern Illinois University from 1981-1986 and then at Southern Illinois University from 1986-1992. She was an active member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Glen Carbon. A service award in her name has been established through the church. Nancy had her pilot’s license and enjoyed the outdoors whether it was flying, traveling or hiking.

Survivors include sisters: Carol (Howard) Koester of Brownstown, Barbara Beck of Cowden and Shirley (Trent) Buchanan of Cowden; brother, Richard (Regeana) Compton of Effingham; sisters-in-law: Joy Compton of McLean and Phyllis Compton of Charleston and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Wayne and Mary Compton; brothers: Rodney and Gene Compton and brother-in-law, Gary Beck.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 28 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden with Reverend Darrell Hinkle officiating. Burial will take place in Mount Zion Cemetery in rural Shelbyville. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
