Karlene Frese, 74, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL, surrounded by her loving family.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham. A prayer service will be held at 4:00 p.m. followed by visitation until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Karlene was born on August 27, 1943, in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Reginald and Deloris (Kingery) Flach and she grew up in the Montrose area. She was united in marriage to Pete Frese on September 1, 1962 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Montrose, IL. Karlene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She had an in-home daycare for many years. Karlene enjoyed camping and visiting with her family and friends. Her family was important to her especially her grandchildren. She kept busy with the grandchildren never missing any of their events.
Karlene is survived by her husband, Pete Frese of Effingham; daughter, Michelle (Mike) Minch of Fishers, IN; sons, Pete (Susie Chastain) Frese Jr. of Edwardsville, IL and Anthony “Tony” (Kim) Frese of Davenport, FL; grandchildren, Karley Minch, August Minch, Taylor (Ryan) Robertson, Abbey Frese, Diane (fiancé, Justin Monaco) Frese, Lexi Chastain, Brenden Frese, and Mallory Frese; sisters, Karen (Raymond) Drees of Teutopolis and Aleta (Don) Bushue of Effingham; brother, Larry (Lucy) Flach of Montrose; aunt and uncle, Ruth and Dean Grissom; uncle, Richard “Dick” Flach; sisters-in-law, Lucy (Dick) Kenter and Patty (Tom) Zerrusen; brothers-in-law, Bill (Linda) Frese and Mike (Nicci Bauman) Frese; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Floyd and Loretta Frese; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mert and Larry McMahon.
