Carl Short, 89, of Newton died at 10:18am Monday, July 2, 2018 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm Thursday, July 5 at Meyer Funeral Home in Newton with Brother Larry Matson officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton with full military rites. Visitation will be from 1 to 3pm Thursday.

Carl was born on February 5, 1929, in Falmouth, Illinois, the son of Alva and Golda (Staley) Short. He married Louise Wilkens on November 24, 1949, in rural Wheeler, Illinois. Carl served his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. Carl was a lineman for Norris Electric Coop in Newton for over 40 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton, Illinois. Carl enjoyed camping and woodworking.

Carl is survived by: Wife of 68 years – Louise Short of Newton, Illinois; Children – Carla (Jack) Carlson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Thomas (Sheila) Short of Lawrenceville, Illinois; Larry (Beth) Short of Newton, Illinois and Tammy (Bruce) Tucker of Heyworth, Illinois; Grandchildren – Erik Carlson, Brandon (Amy) Short, Tonya Short, Craig (Jennifer) Short, Andrew (Katrina) Short, Donald Short, Bradley (Jennifer) Short, Jeffrey Short, Edward Short, Caroline Short, Kate (Jordan) Reiners and Kristen Tucker; 9 Great Grandchildren; Sisters – Maxine Wooden of Peoria, Illinois and Norma Jean Mason of New Albany, Indiana.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Bernice Field and Clella French.
