Edward William Meers, 69, Stewardson and formerly of Le Roy, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2018 at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Ed was born August 30, 1948, in Bloomington, the son of Wilbur and Elnora (Bullerman) Meers. On July 20, 1975 he and Elaine Speaker were united in marriage. Ed was a 1966 graduate of Le Roy High School and 1970 graduate of the U of I College of Ag. He enjoyed fishing, hosting friends and family at their Lake Mattoon house, and being with his family - especially his three granddaughters. For many years, he farmed with his father in the Le Roy area and later Stewardson. His true passion and talent was the genetic science of pork production, and he received much joy from the camaraderie and competition at hog shows over the years. A special thanks to Brandon Ogle and Brett Schultz for allowing Ed to pursue his passion of raising hogs for the past few years and to Fred Perry for being his travel companion to hog shows near and far.

He served as Mayor of Stewardson for two terms and as Shelby County Republican Chairman for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Elaine of Stewardson; sons: David (Allison) Meers of Chicago and Mike (Ashley) Meers of Effingham; three granddaughters: Peyton, Samantha and Harper and sister Sherry (Keith) Morgan of Le Roy, IL.

Preceding him in death were his parents and son Scott.
