Fern H. Davis, 96, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in Decatur, Illinois.

Visitation and Service will be Saturday, June 16 at 11 a.m. and noon at the First Church of the Nazarene, Forsyth. Burial with a graveside service will follow at 4 p.m. at Arborcrest Cemetery, Route 40, Effingham.

Fern was born on October 10, 1921 in Mason, Illinois to Henry and Clara (Barham) Duckwitz. She married Woodrow "Woody" W. Davis in 1940. They raised six children and built a beautiful life together.

To say she loved to cook is an understatement. Dinner at grandma's could feed an army, even dinner for two. She delighted in surprising grandchildren with pancakes in all shapes and sizes, from planes to trains, from Mickey Mouse to the Mona Lisa.

Fern loved to sew, knit and create. She could walk into a store, see a dress, make a pattern, and recreate it for her girls. Later in life she spent years knitting an afghan for each of her children and grandchildren. She was a gifted artist and painter, and was endlessly creative. Fern loved to read her Bible and the works of Beverly Lewis. She grew a massive garden and the best looking tulips in town.

Fern was strong, independent, and she lived life on her own terms. Above all, she was a fierce champion of her family and she loved the Lord.

Surviving are her children Nancy Kirchhoff, Sharon (Larry) Goers, Alfred (Nancy) Davis, and Tina (John) Robinson, twelve grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her children Judy Duckwitz and Woodrow "Bud" Davis, son-in-law Carl Kirchhoff, daughter-in-law Brenda Davis, her grandson Mike Davis, and her thirteen brothers and sisters.

Memorials can be made online at spreadtruth.com, designating "In Memory of Fern Davis", to support her granddaughters on an upcoming mission trip.
