Caroline K. Bahrns (97) of Effingham

Caroline Katherine Bahrns, 97 of Effingham, went to be with her Lord on Thursday evening, May 24, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 27 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Arborcrest Memorial Park, west of Effingham. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to time of service Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society, St. John’s Alter Guild or the donor’s choice. Mrs. Bahrns was born February 20, 1921 in Effingham County, the daughter of Louis and Katherine Budde. She married Albert C. Bahrns on June 5, 1941 in Effingham and he preceded her in death on March 15, 1996. Caroline was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham, as well as a member of the Alter Guild and made the baptismal cloths for many years. Caroline was employed at Illinois Glove Factory for some 15 years. When the factory closed, she went to St. Anthony Memorial Hospital to be the seamstress for over 20 years. She retired from St. Anthony Hospital and began working part-time at Arby’s Restaurant in Effingham. Caroline took care of the dining area and enjoyed greeting and helping with customers. Mrs. Bahrns was a resident of Lakeland Health Care for the past few years, where she was involved in many activities and enjoyed visiting with everyone.

Caroline is survived by her daughter, Beverly Koester of rural Effingham; grandsons, Todd A. (Diane) and Tim E. (Deb), all of Effingham; great-granddaughters, Morgan (Rod) Brumleve, Macy (special friend, Kyle Dasenbrock) and Casey (special friend, Lance Dasenbrock); great-great-granddaughter, Brynley Jo Hayes; great-great-grandson, August Brumleve; step-great-grandchildren, Paul (Joci) Hilgenberg and Keith (Amanda) Cummins; step-great-great-grandchildren, Keley, Austin and Sierra Hilgenberg and Conner and Liam Cummins.

Caroline was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Wilbert, Earl and  Leonard Budde; sisters-in-law, Freda Berg and Bertha Frost and son-in-law, Tom Koester.
