Howard Eugene "Pete" Ard (72) of Mattoon

Howard Eugene "Pete" Ard, 72, of Mattoon, Illinois, passed away at 5:20 P. M. Wednesday, May 9, 2018 in the Mattoon Rehabilitation & Health Care Center of Mattoon, Illinois.

Pete was born May 9, 1946, in Fairhope, Alabama, the son of Leslie and Annie Mae (Grimes) Ard. He married Carolyn Ashby and she preceded in death. Pete was a retired Foundry employee and a former cook, and he also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, watching old westerns on the television, listening to music, walking in the wilderness and spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

Pete leaves his mother, Annie Mae Ard of Mattoon, IL; five children, Alice Johnson (Sabin), Kathy Lawyer (Greg), Duane Ard, Debbie Rardin and Tina Sparling all of Mattoon, IL; five brothers, Wilbur "Mark" Ard, Jimmy Ard and Richard Ard all of Mattoon, IL, Carl Ard of Newton, IL and Willie Van Scyoc (Andrea) of Trilla, IL; two sisters, Joyce Worman (James) of Mattoon, IL and Diane Bloodsworth (Tony) of New Brockton, AL; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Mr. Ard was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Ard; wife, Carolyn Ard; sister, Jackie Lawhorn.

Memorials may be made to the family to help with expenses, in care of Debbie Rardin, 301 Woodgate Lane, Mattoon, IL 61938.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A. M. Saturday, May 19 in the Swengel-O’Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, Illinois, with the Pastor Rick Williams of Shelbyville, IL, officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00 A. M. Saturday until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Drummond Cemetery near Neoga, Illinois.
