Virgil William Krone, 91 of Effingham, formerly of Teutopolis, passed away Sunday evening, May 13, 2018 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 18 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the church. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Virgil was born August 21, 1926 the son of the William and Bernadine (Tebbe) Krone. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Marie Rhodes on July 25, 1948 at St. Francis Church in Teutopolis. She preceded him in death on June 13, 2011. Virgil was a veteran of WW2, serving in the 7th regiment of the first Calvary division. He was part of the occupational force stationed in Tokyo at the end of the war. Virgil was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers Illinois Local 8 for over 40 years. He was also a member of St. Francis Church in Teutopolis and the Teutopolis American Legion Post #924. Virgil was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball and football fan.

Virgil is survived by six sons, Bill of Effingham, Randy (Cindy) of Kirkwood, MO, Tim (Brandy) of Champaign, Terry of Austin, TX, Ron (Christine) of Lake Villa and Jerry (Joyce) of Edwardsville; ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild and special-friend, Micki Weber.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Alvina; sister, Bertha “Tootie” Deters; grandson, Dillon Krone; stepmother, Clara Einhorn Krone; step-brothers, Adolph and Leonard Einhorn and step-sister, Adeline Einhorn Uptmor.
