Sylvia K. (Newkirk) Nethery, age 56, of Newton passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Carle Hospital after a long battle with bronchiectasis.

Sylvia was born October 31, 1961 to Harry and Shirley (Timmons) Newkirk at Richland Memorial Hospital, Olney, IL. Sylvia worked at Roadmaster in Olney, Heath in Robinson, ER Moore in Newton, and Richland Memorial Hospital Long Term Care.

Sylvia is survived by a daughter, Jodi Nethery and special friend Nicholas Beavers of Newton, siblings Phyllis (Jake) Miller of Martinsville, Allen Newkirk (Bob Keefe) of Woodridge, IL, Fern (Mark) Kingery of Martinsville, Donald (Kathy) Newkirk of Yale and several nieces and nephews, which she an important part in raising. She is also survived by her faithful companion, Tiny, and grand dog, Layla Bell.

Her parents, infant sister, Nancy Sue and her beloved dog Pup preceded her in death.

Sylvia was a fan of NASCAR; her favorite driver was Matt Kenseth. She crocheted many afghans for family members and loved the time spent with family and friends.

Services in honor of Sylvia will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 6 at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton, Illinois with Pastor Tim Oakley officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the Hunt Cemetery, Rose Hill, Illinois. The family requests casual dress for the visitation and services. Memorial gifts in honor of Sylvia may be made to Yale Community Center or Richland Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Activity Fund.
