John Lee Mitchell, age 73, of Farina, Illinois passed away at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at his home in Farina, Illinois surrounded by his family.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28 at Pagel Funeral Homes in Edgewood, Illinois with a two-hour visitation prior to the service. Ronnie Frazier will be officiating. Burial will be at the Iola Cemetery in Iola, Illinois. Military Rites will be observed. Memorials may go to the Flora VFW, 128 E. 2nd Street, Flora, Illinois or the donor’s choice.

John was born on May 11, 1944, in Salem, Illinois, the son of Vernon E. and Margret J. (Patrick) Mitchell. John was a union worker and member of the United Iron Workers UIW and Heavy Equipment Operator Union 841. He was past commander of the Flora VFW Post # 3999, where he joined 12 years ago and considered a lifetime member. He was also a member of the Edgewood American Legion Post # 1168 for many years. John enjoyed mushroom hunting, trap shooting and excelled in many horseshoe tournaments.

John is survived by one daughter, Vickey Fitzjarrald (husband Carl) of Kansas, Illinois; three sons, Victor Mitchell (wife Raedell) of Iola, Illinois, Vernon Mitchell (wife Candy) of Farina, Illinois, John Mitchell (wife Dianna) of Farina, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and faithful companion, his dog, Fred.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon E. and Margret J. Mitchell and one brother, Larry Mitchell.
