Delmar L. Shelton, 81, of Effingham, IL, was taken by our Heavenly Father at 11:44 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. 

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Monday, April 16, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon Monday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Crossroads Freewill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1342, Effingham, IL 62401. Delmar was born on March 2, 1937, in Elkville, IL, the son of Carl and Gladys (Cochran) Shelton. Delmar married Carolyn Dailey on December 6, 1954, and from that marriage they had three children: daughter, Marilyn (husband, Rick) Rueter of Effingham, son, Michael Shelton of Effingham, and infant daughter, Connie Shelton, age 2 months, whom preceded Delmar in death.

Delmar loved to sing at the Opry in Edgewood and in Altamont. He had a passion for life and was always happy. He enjoyed making people laugh. Delmar was the founder of Crossroads Truck Equipment and an avid golfer.

Delmar also leaves five grandchildren, Stephanie Rueter Richardson of Effingham, Nathan Rueter (fiancĂ©e, Tawnia) of Heartville, Tyler Rueter (wife, Jessica) of Waterloo, Trenton  Shelton (special friend, Kacie Legg) of Mason, and Sophia Shelton of Altamont; great-grandchildren, Zackary Richardson and Zoey Richardson, both of Effingham, Lexie Lohman (husband, Kevin) of Dieterich, Blake Rueter, Wade Rueter, and Lauren Rueter, all of Waterloo, and Gracelyn Shelton of Mason; great-great-grandchild, Layton Lohman of Dieterich, brother, Bob; and sisters, Janet and Mary. He adored his children and all of his grandchildren and they brought him so much joy. He will be greatly missed by all. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Connie; infant great-grandson, Aidan Richardson; brothers; sisters; nieces and nephews.
