Viola C. “Dolly” Gaskill, 100, of Effingham, IL, passed away Monday, April 9, 2018 at Evergreen Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Effingham, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday, April 12 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Entombment will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum in Effingham. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Evergreen Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Viola was born on April 6, 1918, in Belleville, IL, the daughter of William and Mary (Schutz) Meyer. She was united in marriage to A.W. “Butch” Gaskill in 1940, and he preceded her in death on September 9, 1996. Viola was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family. She was a simple person and loved her music. Viola was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Effingham. She was also active at the Effingham Senior Center.

Viola is survived by her daughter, Marlene L. (Melvin) Levingston of Jewett; granddaughters, Natalie (Curtis) Hall of Montrose and Emily (Chris) Strader of Toledo; and great-grandchildren, Anthony Hall USN, Lucas Hall, Elijah Hall, Ellie Strader, and Audrey Strader.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, John Meyer and George Meyer; and sister, Elizabeth Randle.
