Daniel Gene “Dan” Jansen, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 6:56 AM – Monday, April 9, 2018, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM – Friday, April 13 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, with Fr. Dean Probst, celebrating mass. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Island Grove, Illinois. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM – Thursday at the church and 1 hour before the mass. In loving memory of Dan, memorials may be made to his children’s education fund. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Dan was born on February 22, 1966, in Effingham, Illinois, the son of Richard George and Ruth Theresa (Koebele) Jansen. He married Ronda Schafer on August 12, 2006, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois. Dan was a 1984 graduate of Newton Community High School. He was a lifelong dairy farmer and currently farmed for a few area dairy farms. Dan was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus #1704. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Dan is survived by: Wife of 11 years – Ronda Jansen of Newton, Illinois; Mother – Ruth Jansen of Effingham, Illinois; Children – Devin Schafer of Bloomington, Indiana; Keely Gosnell and Danika Jansen both of Newton, Illinois; Grandson – Weston Schafer – Bloomington, Indiana; Brothers – Dave (Pam) Jansen of Newton, Illinois and Mike (Amanda) Jansen of Mahomet, Illinois; Sisters – Connie (Steve) Holkenbrink of Teutopolis, Illinois; Cindy (Gene) Deters of Teutopolis, Illinois; Sue (Tom) Swingler of Montrose, Illinois and Amy (Andrew) Weisser of Santa Cruse, California; Father and Mother-in-law – Jim and Joyce Schafer of Newton, Illinois; Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Dan was preceded in death by his father and brother Rick Jansen.
