Emma “Eileen” Smith (91) of Cowden

Emma “Eileen” Smith, 91, of Cowden, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.  

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden with Pastor Kathy Lewis of the Cowden United Methodist Church officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Burial will take place in Mound Cemetery in Cowden.  Memorials may be made to the Cowden United Methodist Church or donor’s choice. 

Eileen was born September 27, 1926, in Shelby County, the daughter of Alva W. and Nellie (Stretch) Thompson.  On March 7, 1947,

Eileen and Jay Smith were united in marriage.  She was a member of the Cowden United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was the church secretary for many years.  

Eileen is survived by her husband, Jay of Cowden; three sons: Stephen (Diane) Smith of Indiana, Phil (Norma) Smith and Gary (Rita) Smith all of Cowden; eleven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Roberta “Cookie” Thompson of Indiana, Mary Anna Thompson of Tennessee and Mary Smith of Shelbyville; several nieces and nephews.  

Preceding her in death were her parents, Alva and Nellie; one great-granddaughter; five brothers: Alva, Edward, Walter, Dean and Kenneth; and two sisters: Lucille and Patricia.
