Barbara M. Cothran (79) of Effingham, formerly of Farina

Barbara M. Cothran, 79, of Effingham, IL, formerly of Farina, IL, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018, at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, IL. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Barbara was born on February 24, 1939, in Morgan County, TN, the daughter of Alfred and Altie (Gunter) Spurling. She was united in marriage to Willard E. Cothran on August 4, 1956, and he preceded her in death on May 18, 2015. Barbara’s focus was always on her family. She had a big heart and was always willing to help others. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was good at it. She also liked her flowers, especially the roses. Barbara always found joy reading her Bible.

Barbara is survived by her son, David (Ava) Cothran and daughter, Debra (Bill) Angel both of Effingham; grandchildren, Michael Cothran, Marissa (Tom) Palmer, Matthew Cothran, and Jennifer (David) Greenwald; step-grandson, Rex (Tammy) Buchanan; great-grandchildren, Seth, Abby and Connor Cothran, Kaelie and Summer Greenwald, Aidan and Amelia Palmer, and Bryante, Cheyenne and Anthony Downey.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Wilson Palmer; brothers, Acie and Frank; half-brother, Freeman; and half-sisters, Blanch, Marie, and Elsie.
