Roger H. Ervin, 68, of Newton, IL passed away at 9:25 AM Friday, February 23, 2018 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday March 1 at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday evening at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Aten Cemetery rural Hidalgo, IL. Memorials can be made to the Jasper Co. Boys & Girls Park.

Roger was born on October 11, 1949 in Herrin, IL to Robert and Betty June (Dossett) Ervin. He married Clara Mae Boswell on March 26, 1971 and she preceded him on January 5, 2017.

Surviving are children Dean (Stephanie) Ervin and June (Josh) Weiscope both of Newton, IL; grandchildren Leah Ervin and fiancé Tyler Rowe, Dawson Ervin and girlfriend Morgan Pierson and Memphis Weiscope; great grandchildren Mason Barnes Houser, Rylee and Kameron Rowe; Brothers John (Lowana) Ervin of Kentucky and George (Joan) Ervin of Texas; Sister Roberta (Steve) Gray of Toledo.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents.

Roger had worked as a truck driver for Kennedy Grain, he also picked up and delivered mail for the US Postal service; he worked at National Homes Builders in Effingham. He was a member of the Jasper County Boys & Girls Park Board Member from 1989-1998 and coached little league for 13 years; he was also on the Newton Mutual Insurance Board of Directors from 1995-2000 and Secretary from 1996 -2000.
