Adolph F. Goeckner, 85, of Effingham died on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at The Glenwood in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Shumway with military rites. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart School or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He was born on August 27, 1932 to George and Rosa Goeckner of rural Effingham. During the Korean Conflict he served his country as an Army Sergeant for Company A of the 13th Combat Engineers. On September 5, 1959 he married Mary Louise Vonderheide. She preceded him in death on January 14, 2007. He built, owned, and operated commercial and residential rental property for most of his life. He loved spending time with his family especially on the farm with his animals. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Effingham, Illinois.

He is survived by Sons: Ambrose (Angela) Goeckner of Amarillo, TX; Leonard (special friend, Debi West) Goeckner of Effingham; Timothy (Cindy) Goeckner of Olathe, KS. Daughters: Charlene (Dr. John) Watts of Aurora, MO; Cynthia (Todd) Mundinger of Hainseville, IL; Michele (Dale) Greuel of Effingham. 9 Grandchildren; 3 Step-Grandchildren, 2 Step-Great-Grandchildren. Brothers: Virgil (Helma) Goeckner, Ralph (Joan) Goeckner, Clete (Judy) Goeckner, Sister: Marcella Burford all of Effingham. Many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, brother: Ambrose Goeckner, sisters: Florence Schumacher, Laura Apke, Alvena “Sister Mary Wilma” Goeckner.
