Betty Lou Borries, 89, of Teutopolis, IL, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 16 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Teutopolis. A combined CCW and CD of A rosary will be held at 5:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 7:00 p.m. Thursday all at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to the School Sisters of Notre Dame, 320 E. Ripa Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63125.

Betty Lou was born on April 29, 1928, in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Carrol and Madalyn (Tipsword) Smith. She was united in marriage to Roger Borries on May 6, 1950 in St. Francis of Assisi Church in Teutopolis, IL. Betty Lou chose to be a homemaker, working to raise their children. She was a 4-H Leader and supporter of their many activities. She was also a member of the CCW and a past Grand Regent of the CD of A. She enjoyed being a part of the Effingham County Home Extension (HCE) for over 50 years and TOPS program. Throughout the years she found enjoyment through camping, sewing, craft making and Sundays at Lake Sara.

Betty Lou is survived by her husband, Roger Borries of Teutopolis; children, Susan (Sam) Reese of Urbana, Rex (Linda) Borries of Dieterich, Michael V. (Debbie) Borries of Effingham, Ann Thomas of Nashville, TN, Peg (Dan) Hille of Effingham, Donald (Lisa) Borries of Effingham, and Dennis (Sue) Borries of Teutopolis; 15 grandchildren; 1 step-grandchild; and 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Stan Smith of Altamont and Larkin Smith of Indianapolis, IN; sisters-in-law, Rose Ann (Ray) Goeckner of Teutopolis, Ruth Ann Miller of Addison, and Sister Alice Borries SSND of St. Louis, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shirley Ferree; and a brother in infancy, Steve Smith.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center for all their compassionate care and support towards their wife and mother.
