Byron W. Ross, 90, of Beecher City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 20 at the Church of Christ on Fourth Street in Effingham. Burial will be in Beecher City Cemetery in Beecher City with military rites. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to the Church of Christ.

Byron was born on July 15, 1927, in Moccasin Township, IL, the son of Robert C. and Ida (Tipsword) Ross. He was united in marriage to Dixie A. McCosh on March 21, 1963 in Vandalia, IL, and she preceded him in death on February 17, 2009. Byron was in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II PTO from 1945-1948 as an aviation mechanic. He was a member of the Shelbyville American Legion Post 81 and the Church of Christ in Effingham. Byron loved to sing. He was an avid coon hunter and ran a AKC and UKC registered kennel.

Byron is survived by his daughter, Pamela Mayhaus of Altamont; son, Vincent Scott Ross of Taylorville; son-in-law, Lloyd Beccue of Edgewood; grandchildren, Cristopher (Mallory) Mayhaus, Jared (Julie) Mayhaus and Heather Mayhaus all of Effingham, LaKrisha (Eric) Brown of Altamont, Jacob Beccue of Effingham, Cassandra Beccue of Mason, Joshua (Elizabeth McWhorter) Beccue of Altamont, and Amanda, Adeleigh and Colten Ross all of Taylorville; 13 great-grandchildren; twin sister, Bertha Denke of Rapid City, SD; and brother, Harold (Beulah) Ross of Beecher City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dixie; daughter, Dana Beccue; brothers, Donald and Robert; and sisters, Barbara Britton and Gladys Garrett.
