Robert L. Reiss, 86 of Effingham, passed away Friday, January 12, 2018 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 15 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a 4:00 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary. Memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony Church or to the Effingham American Legion #120.

Robert was born May 11, 1931 in Altamont, the son of Henry and Edith (Thoele) Reiss. He married Celeste C. Schmidt on September 5, 1959 and she preceded him in death in 1990. Robert served with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and was employed at Effingham Equity for 36 years. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham, Effingham Knights of Columbus Council #665 and the Effingham American Legion Post #120. Robert loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.

Robert is survived by his three sons, Philip, Mark (Jennifer) and Paul (Shirley), all of Effingham; daughters, Karen (James) Schumacher of Teutopolis and Darlene (Dave) Unkraut of Effingham; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Reiss of Altamont; sister, Phyllis Coleman of Altamont and sister-in-law, Margaret Reiss.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, James Reiss; sisters, Anna Mae McCain, Dorothy Augustine and an infant sister.
