Margaret Elizabeth Hanfland, 105, passed away Wednesday morning, January 10, 2018 at her home in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Michael Cemetery, Sigel. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to time of service Saturday morning at the church. Memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony Church, St. Michael Church or to the donor’s choice.

Margaret was born May 13, 1912 in Effingham, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Miller) Pike. She married Fred J. Hanfland on April 18, 1934 in Effingham and he preceded her in death on February 13, 1991. Margaret was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting and tatting. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham and a former member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Sigel.

Margaret is survived by her daughters, Madonna (Ron) Hakman of Effingham and Virginia (Gerald) Lindley of Mattoon; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Hanfland of Trowbridge; sister, Mary Broom of Effingham; 10 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Edward; grandson, Scott; three great-great-grandchildren; five brothers and four sisters.
