Martha P. Niemerg, 90, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018 at her home in Bishop Creek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 12 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Bishop Creek, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the church, with a 4:00 p.m. CCW rosary and a 7:00 p.m. parish prayer service. Memorial donations may be made to St. Michael School (Sigel), St. Isidore Parish or Catholic Charities.

Martha was born April 15, 1927 in Sigel, the daughter of Bernard and Katherine (Schutte) Schumacher. She married Andrew G. Niemerg on April 8, 1947 and he preceded her in death in May of 2002. Martha was a homemaker and the best pie maker at both Niemerg’s Best Western and Niemerg’s Steak House, where she later retired. She volunteered at Catholic Charities, Second Hand Rose, Meals on Wheels, Birth Right and was a PSR teacher. Martha was an avid quilter and made quilts and baby quilts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing games with her family and friends, including cards, dominoes and scrabble. Martha was a member of St. Isidore the Farmer Parish, Council of Catholic Women and the Third Order of St. Francis.

Martha is survived by her 14 children, Ron of Shelbyville, Diane (Rick) Siemer of Teutopolis, Tom (JoAnn) of Sigel, Dan (Susie) of Bishop Creek, Gene (Ellie) of Bishop Creek, Randy (Marcia) of Teutopolis, Ben (Deb) of Bishop Creek, Jane (Terry) Meyer of Teutopolis, Cathy (Joe) Walk of Neoga, Tony (Terri) of Edgewood, Ed (Lori) of Bishop Creek, Annette (Bill) Schnabel of Princeton, Mark (Kristy) of Bishop Creek and Sharon (Dave) Sieveking of Bend, OR; 70 grandchildren and 106 great-grandchildren; sister, Theresa Walk of Neoga; sisters-in-law, Ruth Habing of Albuquerque, NM, Marie Niemerg of Effingham, Helen Schumacher and Dorothy Schumacher, both of Sigel.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Joey Walk; great-granddaughter, Charlotte Grace Niemerg; brothers, Richard, Harold, Bernard and John Schumacher; sisters, Anne Probst, Grace Lamkin, Berniece Fearday Wilkens and Katie Gadel.
