Dorothy "Dottie" Jahraus, 88, of Farina, IL died Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at her home.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 8 at Friedens United Church of Christ in Farina with Pastor Zack Garrett officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date. The family will gather to meet friends from 11:00 a.m. Monday until the service hour at the church. Memorials may be made to the Farina Volunteer Ambulance, or Friedens United Church of Christ and will be accepted by the Rankin Funeral Home, entrusted with the family's care.

She was born August 6, 1929 in Maryville, MO, the daughter of Rolland and Elva I. (Swaney) Rickard who preceded her in death. Dottie had worked for several years for the Farina Water Department as a collector. She loved to work in both her flower gardens, and planting flowers for the beautification of Farina itself. She was a devoted member of Friedens United Church of Christ in Farina. She was active in the Farina Red Hat Society. Though of small build, she was tall in stature, and mighty in will. She married Donald F. Jahraus, December 9, 1949 in Vancouver, WA. He preceded her in death May 19, 1999.

Surviving are her sons, Mikel Jahraus of Farina, Larry Jahraus and wife Cheryl of Vandalia, and daughter-in-law, Diane Jahraus of Effingham, along with her grandchildren, Joshua Jahraus and special friend Jessica, Micah Brasel and husband Klayton, Zachary Jahraus. Alison Conant and husband Scott, and her grandson Lucas. Also, her 4 great grandchildren, Alex, Adalyn, Sawyer and Jayden. Also left to mourn her passing is her sister, Louella Childress of Ventura, CA.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Howard and Gerald Rickard, and a grandson, Bret Jahraus.
