Vincent Richard "Dick" Helregel, 86, of West Liberty died at 2:13am Friday, January 5, 2018 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM – Wednesday, January 10 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, Illinois, with Fr. Dean Probst celebrating mass. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ste. Marie, Illinois, with full military rites by the Ste. Marie American Legion Post #932. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM – Tuesday at the church and 1 hour before the mass. In loving memory of Dick, memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Church or Ste. Marie American Legion Post #932. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Dick was born on April 22, 1931, on the family farm in Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Frank and Sophia (Hoffman) Helregel. He married Kathleen “Kay” Kapper on July 27, 1959, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Olney, Illinois. Dick served his country in the United States Army as a front line medic during the Koran Conflict. Dick was a farmer and carpenter. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, Illinois, and a 60 year member of the Ste. Marie American Legion Post #932. Dick enjoyed hunting, especially quail and deer. His greatest pastime was playing cards with his friends.

Dick is survived by: Wife of 58 years – Kay Helregel of West Liberty, Illinois. Children – Janice (Lester) Zuber of Olney, Illinois, and Mark Helregel (Fiancé Tammy Gillette) of Smithton, Illinois. Grandchildren – Nicole and Natalie Helregel.  Step Grandchildren – Lance Zuber, Amie (Elton) Krasselt and Aron (Elizabeth) Zuber.  Four Step Great Grandchildren – Christian, Dakota, Taylor and Ethan. Brother – Walter (Donna) Helregel of Tuscola, Illinois. Sisters - Theresa (Delmar) Radke of Springfield, Illinois and Mary Ann (Dan) Kuenstler of Claremont, Illinois.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, son John Helregel, brothers Lawrence and Albert Helregel, sisters Clorene Ochs and Louise Keller.
