Kenneth Eugene “Kenny” Kessler, 73, of Vandalia passed away at home on Wednesday, January 3, 2018.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 9 at Mother of Dolors Catholic Church in Vandalia with Rev. Fr. Zach Edgar officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Memorials may be made to Fayette County Health Dept. Hospice or the Fayette County Cancer Fund.

Kenneth Eugene Kessler was born at home in Richland County, IL, May 27, 1944, the son of Raymond and Thresa (Wagner) Kessler. He married Linda Brooks on October 1, 1966. Mr. Kessler worked for Illinois Department of Transportation as an Engineer Technician.  He was a member of Mother of Dolors Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and for over 30 years a member the Fayette County Democratic Party. Kenny loved fishing with his grandsons and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals.

He is survived by his wife, Linda of Vandalia; daughters, Sheila Kessler and husband Stephen O’Sullivan of Arlington Heights, and Shelli and husband Drew Meyers of Vandalia; grandsons, Garrett James Meyers and Corbin Eugene Thomas Meyers both of Vandalia; sisters Rose Kessler and Judy Kessler both of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Raymond Kessler Jr.
