Carol Jean “Cookie” (Springer) Wolters, 70, of Effingham, IL, passed away peacefully at 9:05 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Willowbrook Memory Care of Effingham.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 30 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held for family and friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Education Trust.

Carol was born on April 25, 1947, in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Clarence Jerome and Clara Marie (Buennemeyer) Springer.

At the age of two, Carol was given the nickname “Cookie,” a name that stayed with her for the rest of her life. Cookie was a graduate of Effingham St. Anthony High School and St. Francis School of Nursing in Peoria, IL.

On July 13, 1968 in Effingham, she married James “Jim” Richard Wolters. They were married 49 years. Cookie retired as a school nurse with the Effingham County Health Department and prior to that lovingly served the community as a pediatric nurse at Marshall Clinic under Dr. David Bristow.

Cookie joined the angels in Heaven after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. She leaves her husband, Jim Wolters of Effingham; one daughter, Jill (husband, Brad) White of Olathe, KS; two sons, Douglas (wife, Angela) Wolters of Mahomet, and Darren (wife, Kimberly) Wolters of Normal; and six grandchildren, Christian and Abby White, Ella and Blake Wolters, and Lyndsey and Sean Wolters. Also surviving are two sisters, Sandra (husband, Bob) Mihlbachler of Effingham and Cindy Bass of Robinson; one brother, Victor (wife, Nancy) Springer of Scottsdale, AZ; and nineteen nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Elaine Springer; nephew, Ryan Wolters; sister-in-law, Arlene (Wolters) Pals; and brother-in-law, Ted Richards.
