Betty J. White, 85, of Effingham, Illinois passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 23, at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Sandy Branch Cemetery in Kinmundy. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church in Effingham, or the American Cancer Society.

Betty was born October 6, 1932, in Kinmundy, the oldest daughter of George and Louise (Parish) Feather. She was united in marriage to Chuck White October 25, 1952, and he preceded her in death December 9, 2006. Betty worked for Montgomery Ward for over 20 years and was a checker at Martin’s IGA for nearly as long. She enjoyed reading and painting ceramics. Betty also was passionate about her yard and flowers along with dancing to her husband’s band. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and volunteered at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital for a short time. Family was very important to her.

Betty is survived by her son, Glen C. “Chuck” (Lynda) White III of Effingham; daughter, Glenette J. White of Effingham; grandchildren, Christa (Ryan Koester) Hayes of Effingham, Chad (Hayley) White of Dieterich, P.J. Wilber of Cheyenne, WY; great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Westin, Kenzlee, Avery, Emry, Bennett, and Shaw; and sisters, Kay Lydick of Decatur and Beverly Brasel of Peoria.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chuck; grandson, Darin White; and sisters, Dorothy Doolen and Mary Jones.
