Bernard H. Bierman (93) of Bishop Creek

Bernard H. Bierman, 93, of rural Effingham, Illinois (Bishop Creek area), went to be with the Lord Saturday evening, December 8, 2012, in his home surrounded by his loving family.

A mass of Christian burial for Bernard will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 12 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, rural Dieterich (Bishop Creek). Burial will be in St. Aloysius Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a parish wake service at 6 p.m. and a K of C rosary immediately following. Services are in care of Hall Funeral Chapel in Effingham. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to the donor's choice. Condolences may be left online at

Bernard was born April 9, 1919 in Effingham County, the son of Henry and Theresa (Goeckner) Bierman. He married Mildred L. Schutte October 29, 1947 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sigel and she preceded him in death March 29, 2011. Bernard was a life-long farmer and also worked as a mechanic at Crossroads Truck Equipment. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, St. Isidore Parish in Bishop Creek and the Knights of Columbus Council #2874 in Teutopolis.

Survivors include Jane (husband Bob) Ordner, Clete (wife Ruth) Bierman, Mary (husband David) Niemerg, Gerard (wife Carla) Bierman, Mike (wife Mary Jo) Bierman,Tony (wife Wilma) Bierman, Geralyn (husband Allen) Koester, Barbara (husband Steve) Hutmacher, Bernice (husband Jerry) Sandschafer, Steve (wife Diane) Bierman and Jeanette (husband Joe) Runde; brother, Harry Bierman; sister, Mildred Koester; brothers-in-law, Ralph Emmerich, Clarence (wife Arlene) Schutte; 44 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; grandchildren, Keith Koester and Kristen Hutmacher; parents; four sisters and two brothers.
