Dixie A. Baker, 82, of Effingham, formerly of Quincy, IL, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2017 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

As per Dixie’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. No services will be held. Entombment will be in Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum in Quincy at a later date. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the Effingham County Humane Society.

Dixie was born on February 22, 1935, in Quincy, IL, the daughter of William and Lorean Riddle (Marshall). She married Robert L. Hardiek Sr. and to that union three children were born: Sheree, Jody, and Rocky. She then married Elmo D. Baker on May 10, 1986, and he preceded her in death on February 28, 2011.

Dixie loved feeding the birds and squirrels in her backyard. She especially loved her two dogs, Toby and Muffin. Dixie was an excellent cook and loved to bake. She was an auxiliary member of the Eagles, Moose Lodge, and Elks. Dixie was a former member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Quincy. She found joy in bowling numerous years. She also enjoyed attending the Quincy Blue Devils sporting events.  She retired from Klaus Radio in Quincy.  She was so proud of her family.

 Dixie is survived by her daughters, Sheree (Pete) Geltz and Jody (Tom) Fish both of Effingham; grandchildren, Shae (Matt) Sullivan of Noblesville, IN, Ryan (Maria) Geltz of Fishers, IN, Zachary Fish deceased, Hannah (Ben) Bear of Effingham, Erin (Josh) Barnhill of Virginia Beach, VA, and Blair (Jennifer) Hardiek Azzi of Mill Valley, CA; great-grandchildren, Keagen Sullivan, Wrigley Sullivan, Dominic Barnhill, Macklin Hardiek Azzi, and Aiden Geltz; daughter-in-law, Debbie Hardiek of Effingham; daughter-in-law, Gina Hardiek of Effingham; and niece, Julie (Curt) Kelty of Quincy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elmo; son, Rocky Hardiek; grandson, Zachary Fish; and sister, Jacqueline Bartelt.
