Audrey Jean Hammer-Neu, 87, of rural Altamont died at 6:15pm Monday, November 13, 2017 in Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 20, at 11:00 am at St. Paul "Blue Point" Lutheran Church north of Altamont with Rev. David R. Speers officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Sunday at the church and from 10 to 11am Monday at the church. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Kull Funeral Chapel in Altamont is assisting. Memorials may be directed to the St. Paul “Blue Point” Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Care Center and or the choice of the donor.

Audrey was born into the Christian family one of six siblings of Arnold and Olive Hammer. She began her long life on April 30, 1930 at Chenoa, Illinois. The family then moved to the Altamont area in the fall of 1930, after the corn was all shucked! She was raised and educated in the values of the Church. Audrey married William Arthur Neu on June 5, 1949 in the St. Paul “Blue Point” Lutheran Church, rural Altamont by the Rev. Herbert Rose. William “Bill” Neu preceded Audrey in death on Thursday August 13, 2009. Audrey spend her life in the local area as a farm wife and with her husband raised a family of five children. She was member of the St. Paul “Blue Point” Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and taught Sunday school. She was also active in community events.

Audrey is survived by her: 3-Sons: Richard (wife, Angela) Neu of Beecher City, Illinois, John (wife, Karen) Neu of Effingham, Illinois and Fred (wife, Phyllis) Neu of Effingham, Illinois; 2-Daughters: Katherine (husband, Joe) Kyle of Veedersburg, Indiana and Charlene (husband, Scott) Bales of Salem, Illinois; 2-Brothers: Howard (wife, Carolyn) Hammer of Altamont, Illinois and Norman (wife, Carolyn) Hammer of Altamont, Illinois; 2-Sisters: Mrs. Dale (Irma) Mellendorf of Dieterich, Illinois and Mrs. Ardon (Verda) Melledorf of Louisville, Illinois; 21 Grandchildren, 27 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her: Husband: William Arthur Ernest Neu; Brother: Arlon “Ace” and his wife Elsie Hammer; Brother-in-law: Ardon Mellendorf; Granddaughter: Krystal Dawn Neu.
