Ruby Helen Dappert Rich, age 92, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 7:05 PM - Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Newton Care Center in Newton, Illinois.

Services celebrating Ruby’s life will be held at 1:00 PM – Saturday, November 11 at Central Christian Church in Newton, Illinois, with Mike Knepper officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 2 hours before the service. In loving memory of Ruby, memorials may be made to the Central Christian Church. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Ruby was born on April 26, 1925, in Flat Rock, Illinois, the daughter of Joel and Arkie (Musgrave) Moorehead. She married Glen Vincent Dappert on July 15, 1956 in Hutsonville, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on November 24, 1992. She later married Charles “Mort” Rich on September 15, 1996, and he preceded her in death on November 1, 2000. Ruby was a homemaker and had worked at the Jasper County Clerk’s Office. She was a faithful member of the Central Christian Church in Newton, where she played the organ for many years. Ruby and her family were all musicians and played for many years as the Moorehead Merry Makers. For many years Ruby gave piano lessons and was always willing to lend a hand or help with mission work.

Ruby is survived by: Daughter – Liz Atkinson of Newton, Illinois; Grandchildren – Lisa (Scott) Turner of Newton, Illinois, Trisha (Bob) Falk of Louisville, Kentucky and Jim Hardy of Napoleon, Ohio; Great Grandchildren - Kierstyn (Cody) Sparks of Newton, Illinois and Aaron Turner of Newton, Illinois; Step Children – John (Sue) Dappert of Robinson, Illinois and Glenna (Randall) Sowers of Jewett, Illinois; Several Step Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren also survive; Sisters – Rhea Glenn of Robinson, Illinois and Joan Craig of Columbus, Ohio; Sister-in-law – Maxine Moorehead of Louisville, Kentucky.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, daughter Patty Hardy, grandson Darrell Sowers, great great grandson Caden Sparks, sisters Celesta Lachenmayr and Vivian Rains, brother Charles “Bud” Moorehead and an infant brother.
