Laurel Marie Carter, 88 of Louisville, passed away Friday, October 6, 2017 at Clay County Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 10 at J. W. Neal Funeral Home in Louisville with Joe Smith officiating. Interment will be in Shouse Chapel Cemetery, Bible Grove, IL. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be sent to Family.

She was born in Bible Grove, IL, the daughter of William Noah and Lillian (Harmon) Lewis on April 21, 1929. She married Glen Carter of Bible Grove on August 24, 1946 in Effingham, IL. He preceded her in death. Laurel was a member of Shouse Chapel Church in Bible Grove, and worked for Norge in Effingham and Golden Circle Nutrition (Meals on Wheels) in Walter Scott Camp and Louisville. She loved quilting, sewing and cooking.

Laurel is survived by her daughter Linda Chamberline of Greenfield, Massachusettes, and her sons, Larry Carter and wife Christine of Waverly, Tennessee, Delbert Carter and wife Sharyn of Louisville, IL; sisters, Charity Thompson of Louisville and Margaret Zink of South Houston, TX. Grandchildren Shannon (Christopher) Lamere of South Deerfield, Massachusettes, Sean (Jolanta) Carter of New Johnsonville, Tennessee, Cory (Amber) Carter of Grant Park, Illinois, Sara Carter of Waverly, Tennessee, Jamie (Pam) Carter of Louisville, Illinois, Karie (Kevin) Blatnick of Charleston, Illinois, Ernest Carter of Henderson, Kentucky, Cassie (Derek) Higgins of Xenia, Illinois, Scott Jones of Mattoon, Illinois, Vanessa (Tyrunne) Howard of Effingham, Illinoia.

She was predeceased by daughter, Sheila Jones, brothers, Alva Lewis, Ronald Lewis, Lowell Lewis, Kenneth Lewis, Glen Lewis and David Lewis.
