James Richard Beckman, 77, of Sebring, Florida, formerly of Effingham, died at his home on Sunday, October 1, 2017 while recuperating from surgery.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Wednesday, October 4 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Avon Park, Florida. Following the service, lunch and a Celebration of Life will follow at the Grogan Center. Burial will take place at a later date in Fletcher Cemetery in Fletcher, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Ridge Area Arc.

He was born in Richmond, Indiana on February 7, 1940 to Kenneth John Beckman and Dorothea Virginia Beckman. He was an Air Force veteran, serving from February 1958 until March 1960. While on active duty, he was stationed in Korea before being honorably discharged. He was a member of the BPOE, American Legion and Knights of Columbus.

Like his father, Jim was employed by Pennsylvania Railroad. He began his career in Richmond, Indiana before being transferred to Effingham. He later retired from Conrail Railroad while living in Effingham after 25 years of service.

In January 1995, he and his wife Rhonda Beckman moved to Florida where they eventually settled in the Sun N Lake Community, where they made a multitude of friends while playing many rounds of golf.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Rhonda Worthington Beckman...two daughters, Barbara Lynn Beckman-Black (Charles) of Richmond, Indiana and Sheryl Kaye Beckman-Locke (Dwayne) of Woodbridge, Virginia...one son, David James Beckman (Jennifer) of Carmel, Indiana...one brother, John Edward Beckman (Sara) of Columbia, South Carolina...six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one niece.
