Lois Carolyn Tate, 90, of Newton passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 23 at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton with Bro. Mike Knepper officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. Saturday until time of service in the funeral home. Burial will be in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton, Illinois.

Lois was born on February 5, 1927 in Bellaire, Illinois the daughter of Harban Dale and Ava (Baker) Murray. On September 11, 1948, Lois married Roy “Junior” Tate, Jr. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2009. For over fifty years, Lois owned and operated The Curl and Swirl beauty shop in Newton. She was a member of the Central Christian Church. Lois was an avid bowler, having sponsored the Curl and Swirl Bowling Team in the Tuesday Night Ladies bowling league for many years. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.

Lois will be loved and remember by her daughter and son-in-law Linda and Kenneth Marshall of Newton; grandchildren Cindy Marshall of Avon Park, FL, Quentin (Karla) Marshall of Mt. Vernon, IA, Todd (Lori) Marshall of Wheeler, and Brent (Elaine) Marshall of Aurora, IN; seven great grandchildren Zeke Marshall, Nicole Marshall, Alyssa Marshall, Masen Marshall, Madalynn Marshall, Taylor Keith and Jordan Rowlins; great great granddaughter Aydra Keith; and sister Ruth Geltz of Willow Hill.

Her parents, husband Roy Tate, Jr, and sister Oletha Chapman preceded her in death.
