Ruth Helen Dorothy Theresa Hardiek, 88, of Effingham passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, September 18, 2017.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, September 22 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham with Fr. Michal officiating. Interment will take place in St. Francis Cemetery in Teutopolis. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Thursday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church.

Ruth was born to John and Helen (Pals) Miller on November 5, 1928 in Teutopolis. She married Gerald “Butch” Hardiek on September 13, 1958 at Sacred Heart Church in Effingham. She was raised in a loving home along with her brothers, Bob (JoAnn) Miller of Varna, Tom (Annie) Miller of Teutopolis, Joe (Margaret) Miller of Zionsville, IN and Clarence (Charlotte) Miller of Teutopolis. Ruth was the proud and loving aunt to many precious nieces and nephews, a godparent to several children who have grown into wonderful adults and an honorary grandparent to her neighbors of the past 50 years. She is survived by many cousins across the country and special friends from the surrounding area. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church in Effingham and spent years as a member of The Effingham Garden Club. Throughout her adult life, she pursued her favorite sport of bowling while winning various awards and trophies. Ruth was a former waitress at the Green Lantern Restaurant between Teutopolis and Effingham and spent the remainder of her life as a housewife, baker and community supporter.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband and two brothers, Tom and Joe.
