Joseph “Joe” Szachnitowski, 38, of Mattoon, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 10 from 12 noon until 3:00 p.m. at Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home in Windsor. Funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Stewardson Cemetery in Stewardson. Memorials may be made to the Coles County Animal Shelter.

Joe was born October 2, 1978, in Mattoon, the son of Joseph Szachnitowski and Karen Manship. He was a graduate of Mattoon High School and worked at Libman Co. in Arcola. Joe enjoyed playing guitar, drums and was in the Slough Band in Mattoon. He was a fan of the Chicago Bears and loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are his parents, Joseph Szachnitowski of Marseilles and Karen Katz of Mattoon; brother, Cody Petrie of Mattoon; two nieces, Aaliyah and Maggie; special dog Venom and cat Squeek and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Jim and Helen Manship and Bill and Kathleen Szachnitowski and his childhood friend Tyler Jones.
