Doris Ann Adams, 81, of Edgewood, Illinois passed away at 10:01 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Funeral service will be held on Friday August 4 at 11:00 a.m. with 1 hour viewing before at the First Baptist Church Effingham, Illinois. Burial will be in Alton Cemetery, 100A Broadway Alton, Illinois. Larry Cline and Roger Marshall will be officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Effingham, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Doris was born July 1, 1936 in Alton, Illinois the daughter of Albert and Pearl (Plager) Deucker. She married D. Phillip Adams on December 24, 1966 in Alton, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 27, 1999. Doris earned her Master’s Degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and was an elementary education teacher for the Roxana School District. She later taught GED classes and Adult Basic Education for Kaskaskia College at the Vandalia Illinois Campus. She held many other positions in the Effingham, Illinois area. She was a volunteer with CEFS literacy program and Community Support Systems. Doris loved spending quality time with her grandchildren, and she also loved to sing, dance and travel.

Doris is survived by her son, Phillip Adams (Joann Reeves) of Bradenton, Florida; one daughter, Kristin Gharst (William) of Watson, Illinois; four grandchildren, Brittany Adams, Tylar Adams, Adam Gharst, and Emily Gharst; two step-grandchildren, Kevin Reeves and Brandon Reeves.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Pearl Deucker and her husband, D. Phillip Adams.
