Dirk Anthony Baker, 51, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at his home.

A celebration of life gathering for Dirk will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a 1:00 p.m. prayer service on Saturday, July 22 at Johnson Funeral Home, 1110 N. Fourth Street, Effingham. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Schools Music Department.

Dirk was born on October 12, 1965, in Effingham, IL, the son of Paul D. and Mildred “Millie” Baker. Dirk performed for many years locally, as well as overseas, in several bands including: Acoust’Cats, The Matt Poss Band, and Larry, Dirk, and Myles. He is remembered for his lightning quick wit and unfiltered honesty. His greatest passion was making music with his son, Myles, a relationship he held above everything else. The struggles Dirk endured in this life are redeemed through his pride and devotion to his only son.

Dirk is survived by his son, Myles Baker; his sisters, Tami (Pete) Campbell and Kathy (Bill) Overbeck; his brother, Brian (Anita) Baker; three nephews and four nieces; and his son’s mother, Sherri Mahon.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Millie I. Baker and his father, Paul D. Baker.
