Marlene E. Moeller, 79, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017 at Effingham Health & Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 13 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Effingham.  Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church Food Pantry or the Effingham Public library.

Marlene was born on May 20, 1938, in South Bend, IN, the daughter of Oscar H. and Irene E. (Hafron) Olson. She graduated with academic honors from John Adams High School, South Bend, Indiana, in 1956, where she was an accomplished flautist in the high school band. She attended college at Albion, Michigan, transferring to the University of Illinois, Champaign graduating with high honors and a degree in education. She married Fred Hicks and to this union were born three sons: Eric, Tim, and Matt. She then married Stanley Moeller on October 14, 1995. Marlene was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham and was involved in many activities and Bible studies in the church. Among her avocations were raising Champion Beagles and attending antique auctions. She especially enjoyed being involved in dressage horse shows. In her free time, Marlene also enjoyed reading.

Marlene is survived by her husband, Stanley of Effingham; sons, Eric (Julie) Hicks of Effingham, Tim (Anne) Hicks of Wauwatosa, WI, and Matt (Lorrie) Hicks of Cary; grandchildren, Samantha Hicks, Alex Hicks, Tracy Hicks, Autumn Hicks, and Lilly Hicks; and brother, Alan (Sharon) Olson, of Solsberry, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
