Erna Fae Koontz, age 83, of St. Elmo, Illinois passed away at 9:10 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2017 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 12 at C&A Pagel Funeral Home in St. Elmo, Illinois with a one-hour viewing prior to service. PeeWee Denton will be officiating. Burial will be at Sidener Cemetery in St. Elmo, Illinois. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may go to the donor’s choice.

Erna was born on December 08, 1933 in St. Elmo, Illinois, the daughter of Cline F. and Thelma B. (Fulton) Dunbar. She married Charlie Koontz on February 14, 1952 at the First Baptist Church in St. Elmo, Illinois. Erna played the piano and organ at the First Baptist Church in St. Elmo for many years. She was a member of the St. Elmo Women’s Club, Home Community Education and the New Beginnings Church in Effingham, Illinois. She loved to bake cookies and spend time with her family and friends.

Erna is survived by her husband, Charlie Koontz of St. Elmo, Illinois; two sons, David Koontz (wife Penny) of St. Elmo, Illinois and Dan Koontz of St. Elmo, Illinois; three grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Erna was preceded in death by her parents, Cline and Thelma Dunbar.
