George D. Fleshner, 68, of Effingham, IL, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Mattoon Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Mattoon, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 24 at Johnson Funeral Home, 1110 N. Fourth Street, Effingham, IL. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham, with military rites. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family for gifts to be given to Crossroads Cancer Center in Effingham.

George was born on January 28, 1949, in Moultrie County, IL, the son of Troy and Clarice (Herendeen) Fleshner. He married Vickie Dilworth on February 26, 1972 in Windsor, IL. George was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam Conflict. After the Army, he served in the National Guard for 10 years. George was very proud of the birth of his five children and very joyful for the births of his grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife, Vickie Fleshner of Effingham; children, James (Susie) Fleshner, Shawn Fleshner, Amanda (David) Craig, Matthew (Jenna) Fleshner, and April Fleshner all of Effingham; grandchildren, Zachary, Dakota, Levi, Payton, Madison, Michael, Ava, and Skyler; 1 great-granddaughter; brothers, Clifford (Carolyn) Fleshner, Dale (Ruby) Fleshner, James (Betty) Fleshner, and Paul (Teresa) Fleshner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Emery Marie; and brothers, Gerald and one in infancy.
