Mary Ann (Smith) Miller, age 80, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 6:45 PM – Monday, March 27, 2017, at her home surrounded by family and loved ones.

Funeral service celebrating Mary Ann’s life will be held at 10:00 AM - Saturday, April 1 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with Fr. Dean Probst and Bro. Steve Hayes officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 4:00 – 6:00 PM Friday. In loving memory of Mary Ann, memorials may be made to the Miss D Scholarship Fund.

Mary Ann was born January 23, 1937 in rural Olney, Illinois, the daughter of Orion Lewis and Evenlyn Cleoan (Worrell) Smith. She married Robert Edward Miller on Aug 8, 1959, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Newton, Illinois. She was a member of Congregational Christian Church of Olney, Mt. Gilead Congregational Christian Church, and St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. She had a lifelong passion for singing old time gospel music, dancing, ceramics, sewing, cooking, Home Extension, gardening & canning. She worked at St Thomas School, Jasper Clothiers and Jasper County Clerk’s Office, where she retired in 2004. She had a tireless love for her husband, kids, granddaughters, great-granddaughter, extended family and friends.

Mary Ann is survived by: Husband of 57 years Robert Miller of rural Newton, Illinois; Daughter - Kimberle Meyer (Alan) of Vincennes, Indiana; Son - Michael Miller of Toledo, Illinois; Siblings - Doris Sink of Auburn, Indiana, Sally Weber (Jim) of Newton, Illinois, Ron (Sharon) Smith of Newton, Illinois, Sandy (Fred) Brandt of Olney, Illinois, Diana (Bob) Hufford of Acworth, Georgia, Keith (Karen) Smith of Olney, Illinois; Grandchildren - Jessica (Chad) Beaman and Tristen Flickner (Fiancé Steven Vallette); Great-Granddaughter - Ryleigh Ann Beaman.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, infant brothers James Allen Smith and Norman Delane Smith, infant sister Ermal Charlotte Smith, brother Larry Louis Smith, half-brother Roger William “Buddy” Smith and a half-sister Suzanne Mae Smith.
