Robert E. “Bob” Sinkler, Sr., 77, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2017, at Effingham Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Effingham, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 28 at Johnson Funeral Home, 1110 N. Fourth Street, Effingham, IL. Burial will be in Watson Cemetery in Watson, with military rites. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in loving memory of Bob to the Alzheimer’s Association or donor’s choice.

Robert was born on August 6, 1939, in Watson, IL, the son of Delbert and Nadine (Smith) Sinkler. He married Nancy Jo Jenkins on November 28, 1958 and to this union were born three children, Robert Jr., Julie, and Jeff. He then married Brenda Stanley Turner on December 12, 1975 and to this union was born one child, Amanda. Bob served in the United States Navy. He owned and operated the Wabash Café in Effingham from 1963 to 1968. He had been employed at Effingham Regrinding and then retired from Martin’s IGA Plus as a maintenance engineer after 39 years of service. Bob had a strong faith in God, was a family man, and could always be counted on. He also was famous for his wonderful story-telling ability. He enjoyed playing country music as lead guitar and riding horses in the Shawnee National Forest.

Bob is survived by his wife, Brenda Sinkler of Effingham; children, Robert E. “Bobby” Sinkler Jr. of Effingham, Julie Walters of Arcola, Jeff (Velinda) Sinkler of Louisville, and Amanda Sinkler Depoister of Effingham; step-children, Kim Turner, Steve (Jane) Turner and Becky Turner, all of Effingham; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary (Rev. Kenneth) Miller of Wheeler and Alan Sinkler of Effingham.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings in infancy, Delbert Dean and Patricia Irine.
