Shirley Ann Oakley, 82, of Mattoon died at 2:15pm Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County.

As per Mrs. Oakley's wishes her body was cremated and a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00  A.M. Tuesday, March 14 in the Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, with Pastor Parker Boothe of Charleston, Illinois officiating. Burial will be in the Neoga Memorial Cemetery, Neoga, Illinois at a later date. The Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

She was born November 10, 1934, in Mattoon, Illinois the daughter of Ralph and Pearl (Sewell) Strohl. Shirley married Richard Eugene Oakley, May 14, 1966, in Effingham, Illinois. She retired from The General Electric Company of Mattoon, Illinois in 1999. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family and looking for recipes and cook books. She loved crocheting, reading and in her younger years she enjoyed camping. She especially enjoyed her little dog "Heidi".

Mrs. Oakley leaves her husband, Richard Eugene " Gene" Oakley of Mattoon, IL; two daughters, Dianna "Cristy" McQueen and husband James of Mattoon, IL and Rhonda Rawlings and husband Greg of Neoga, IL; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Mrs. Oakley was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Owen Ray Sanders, Jr.; one brother, Howard Strohl and one sister, Margie Jean Sellstrom.
