Mrs. Grace (Maxwell) Kerner, 92, of Newton died at 1:13pm Friday, February 10, 2017 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County.

Mass of Christian Burial for Grace, will be celebrated at 10:00 AM – Monday, February 13, 2017, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, with Fr. Dean Probst celebrating mass.  Burial will be in the New St. Peter Cemetery east of Newton, Illinois.  Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM- Sunday, February 12, 2017, at the church and ½ hour before the mass.   Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. 
Grace was born on December 17, 1924, near Boos, in Jasper County, Illinois, the daughter of Ray and Cleo (Kincaid) Maxwell.  She married Neil E. Kerner, on August 23, 1947, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on February 14, 2014.
Grace worked at E.R. Moore Cap and Gown Factory in Newton for many years.   She was a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois.  She enjoyed gardening, quilting, crafting and making rugs.
Grace is survived by:
Children – Rita Kerner of Indianapolis, Indiana
Jerry Kerner – Springfield, Missouri 
Mike (Pat) Kerner of Arcola, Illinois
5 Grandchildren - Steven Kerner, Tyler (Laura) Kerner, Staci (Matt) Holmes, Bob Kerner and Julie (Grant) Carpenter
4 Great-Grandchildren – Kylie, Sophia, Audrey and Oliver and a great grandson to be born in a few weeks
 
Grace was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
