Madelyn Mild Beam, 76, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11 at the First Church of God, 2600 S. Banker Street, Effingham, IL. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home, 1110 N. Fourth Street, Effingham. The family asks that donations can be made to E.A.R.S., P.O. Maddy was born in St. Louis, MO, on August 8, 1940 to the late Milton and LaVona (Gillman) Mild. She married Jim Beam on January 3, 1987, in St. Louis, MO. Maddy was a graduate of Purdue University, a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and the First Church of God in Effingham, and later became a successful real estate agent in St. Louis, MO. After retiring she spent many years in Tampa, FL, with her husband Jim. They later moved to Effingham, IL, which they have called home for the past twenty years. An animal lover, Maddy was a co-founder of E.A.R.S. (Effingham Animal Rescue Sanctuary) with her husband, Jim, and worked tirelessly saving, caring and placing stray cats and dogs. Maddy was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her family.

Maddy is survived by her devoted and loving husband, John C. “Jim” Beam of Effingham; her two children, Robert Mild Nagel of Boston, MA and Cheri (Dan) Nagel Haas of Duxbury, MA; and 4 loving grandchildren: Hailey, Cole, Hannah and Tierney. Maddy also leaves behind step-children: Craig Beam (friend, Emily Mix) of Effingham, Chris Beam of Taylorville, Becky (David) Burkham of Decatur, Rachel-“Beth” (Dan) Donald of Shelbyville, and Charles (Cheryl) Beam of Effingham; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her sister, Marcia Mild Steffan.
